Long-term success for Spanish municipal desalination plant

Population growth and climate change have caused significant local water challenges in Torrevieja, Spain with demand outstripping supply. This led to the construction of the Torrevieja Seawater Desalination Plant to provide a reliable source of safe and high-quality drinking water.

Over 25,000 DuPont™ FilmTec™ reverse osmosis elements were used to create a total plant capacity of 240,000m3 per day, with a recovery rate of 45% for first-pass seawater RO and 90% for second-pass brackish water RO being consistently achieved since the plant commenced operations in 2013.

The membranes have not required replacement since installation, demonstrating excellent operational performance, reliability, and durability for almost a decade.

Find out more by reading the full case study regarding how FilmTec™ elements have provided a safe and reliable source of drinking water.
