Water plays an essential role in the manufacturing of semiconductors, being used throughout the fabrication process. Since 2014, FilmTec™ Eco Platinum-440i elements have been deployed at a Taiwanese semiconductor plant to provide a cost-effective solution for recycling reverse osmosis (RO) brine from the wastewater reclaim system for use as makeup water in the site’s cooling towers.

At the start of the project, part of the existing water treatment system was identified as suitable for repurposing, however, the high TDS and TOC levels of the feedwater posed a challenge to engineers. By retrofitting the system with low energy FilmTec™ Eco Platinum-440i elements, the plant was able to avoid costly booster pump upgrades and continues to save thousands of dollars of associated energy costs each year.

Explore the underlying data and discover how DuPont Water Solutions reverse osmosis (RO) technology was used to achieve high permeate water quality for this advanced microelectronics facility while reducing overall water and energy consumption.
