Bee Ridge AWT Plant Expansion Project with MemCor™ MBR System Wins WEF Project Excellence Award

Milestone Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion Project will be Honored at WEFTEC in New Orleans.

WILMINGTON, Del., August 31, 2026 — Sarasota County’s Bee Ridge Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion project has been announced as a winner for a 2026 Water Environment Federation (WEF) Project Excellence award. Sarasota County’s project partners from Carollo Engineers, Garney Construction and DuPont Water Solutions will celebrate together at the WEF awards ceremony at WEFTEC in New Orleans on September 28.

The expanded Bee Ridge Water Reclamation Advanced Wastewater Treatment plant commenced operations in December 2025, increasing treatment capacity from 12 million gallons per day to 18 million gallons per day to meet increasing wastewater treatment demand due to population growth. Utilizing a DuPont™ MemCor™ Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) system with a total of 3,696 MemPulse™ MBR modules, the Bee Ridge plant is now the largest MBR installation in the state of Florida.

MemCor™ MBR systems with MemPulse™ MBR modules combine biological nutrient removal with advanced membrane filtration to produce high-quality effluent that meets AWT requirements. At the Bee Ridge Water Reclamation Advanced Wastewater Treatment plant, the MBR system will help reduce the concentration of nitrogen and phosphorus in discharge to safeguard Sarasota’s waterways and the Gulf of Mexico. The high-quality effluent will also allow for non-potable reuse for agricultural irrigation while setting the stage for further water reuse applications in the future, conserving the community’s sources of potable water for drinking water purposes.
