DuPont™ B-Free™ technology offers a solution that prevents the negative effects of biofouling

The B-Free™ solution is the result of a multi-year research and development effort that consists of a vessel-based media technology that offers a reliable, easy-to-use, and sustainable solution to mitigate the effects of biofouling in reverse osmosis systems. It is based on the B-Free™ pretreatment technology's ability to create an instant and sustained biostatic environment for downstream RO operations without the need for chemicals and resilient to upstream upsets, making it suitable for drinking water or industrial applications.

Multi-tech solution designed for easy upgrade or superior new-build

The B-Free™ technology pre-treats the seawater or brackish water influx ahead of the RO in a compact vessel by creating a constant biostatic environment that eliminates the detrimental effects of biofouling. Biostratum grows evenly between the media top layer particles, called the stratum carrier. The media layer underneath this stratum carrier is a safeguard that ensures the discharged water is biostatic, even right after the system has started-up. When it reaches a certain critical mass, flushed-out from the top of the system while at the same time the media is retained.

For an optimum suspended solids removal and efficiency, ultrafiltration pretreatment is recommended upstream B-Free™ filtration media. The B-Free™ system enables a compact footprint solution and can be installed in both new plants and can also upgrade existing systems. B-Free™ technology can also retrofit existing sand-filters vessels with only minor adjustments.

The system can be fully automated and offers a reliable, easy-to-use, and sustainable solution that is based on its ability to create an instant and sustained biostatic environment for the downstream RO operations without the need for chemicals and resilient to upstream upsets. DuPont™ B-Free™ requires little maintenance, but can have a massive impact on the stability of the downstream RO operations, slashing the need for membrane and cartridge replacements and unplanned downtime due to cleanings.
